Introduction of EDU455
Assalamualaikum and hye everyoneđź‘‹
Today, I will tell you about one of the courses that I take
in my semester 2, which is Instructional Technology, or here we call it as
EDU455.
Basically, this course introduces
me to the various computer applications software such as
word processing, desktop publishing, web pages
development, spreadsheet use, telecommunications and their uses in all
areas of education. I will finish the
course with a complete understanding of computers, how to use computer
applications, and how to access information on the World Wide Web as an
integrated teaching and learning tool.
Other than that, I will also be
exposed to teaching and learning systems or tools, such as web-based teaching
and learning tools and educational portals. This will assist me in understanding
other alternatives of teaching and learning techniques that can be used in
classrooms. I’m also are given hands-on
experience with each
technique or application
being explained and demonstrated via workshops in a computer
laboratory.
At the end of this course, I
should be able to explain the basic elements and components of a computer
system, describe the basic characteristics of application programs, apply application
programs in the curriculum and for administrative purposes, describe the basic
elements of telecommunication and system tools and their uses and benefits in
education, as well as to discuss issues and future trends of computers in
educationđź’‹đź’‹
There are a few assignments that should be completed through this
semester, which are:
- Portfolio of classroom technology tools
This course aims to expose
students to the various ways of using technology in class to optimize learning.
As such, students will be asked to do a review of a tool (from week 2 to week
12) which can be used as an instructional tool. These reviews should be
compiled into a portfolio which will be submitted at the end of week 1
- In class assignment
Students will produce a gradebook
using Excel as an in class task, which is able demonstrate their ability to use
various functions and formulas in the program to produce a gradebook, and able
to format the gradebook so that it produces good presentations of data. The gradebook should also develop transfers
data correctly.
- Group Project
In your team, you are expected to
produce self-instructional courseware which focuses on any topic (subtopic)
from KBSR or KBSM scheme of work, preferably from your area of specialization. The
product should follow the basic visual principles and pitch at the level which
is appropriate with students’ level of understanding. The product should also integrate with multimedia
elements (graphics, audio, video and/or simulation)
- Test
The test will comprise of several
subjective questions, where students will demonstrate their analytical skills
in deciding ICT tools to be integrated in the given cases.
